Most of this song was written in the early 1970's as the woman's response to John Hartford's
otherwise excellent song, "Gentle on my mind" (1967), made famous by Glenn Campbell.
The 'otherwise' adjective reflects my sense that the philosophy behind it, while characteristic of the
'60s mindset, is completely devoid of any sympathy for how his mythical partner might actually feel. So
I decided to give her a voice.
